We are Altarnun Primary School, a small rural infant and junior school set on the fringes of Bodmin Moor, eight miles from the nearest town of Launceston. We are part of Launceston College Multi Academy Trust, a multi-academy trust.
We currently have 64 happy, friendly pupils on roll with us in three classes and our teaching and support staff are committed to providing our children with the best education possible and making them feel valued, safe and happy to learn.
We became an academy on 1st June 2014 to further support our vision to become an outstanding school and enable our pupils to realise their full potential. We pride ourselves on being a happy and friendly school, where relationships between our staff and the children are very positive. We have high expectations of both effort and behaviour and we work hard with all children to help them succeed.
Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard and a range of desktop computers to help inspire our pupils. We have a superb, managed wireless network and a suite of laptops so that every child has access to the digital world.
Our outdoor space is very large for the number of pupils and consists of two playgrounds, adventure trail, willow structures, football pitches and further open spaces.
Altarnun Pre-School is accommodated within our building and although it is independent from the school, we work very closely together to ensure a smooth transition for pupils to the school.
We have a close relationship with our community including the Church of St Nonna where every year we hold our Carol Concert. We use many other features of the local area including Launceston Castle and our wonderful village as part of our planned topic work.
Like many small schools we are part of a cluster of local schools and share events with the pupils of South Petherwin School, Egloskerry School, Trekenner School and Tregadillett School. We also take part in local sports events including football, netball and cross-country – with great success!
